E-conference “EU Values, Diversity and Intercultural Dialogue: Enhancing the debate

In the e-conference “EU Values, Diversity and Intercultural Dialogue: Enhancing the debate” on Thursday April 22nd, Mr Patrick PENNINCKX, Head of Information Society Department at the Council of Europe, represented the Council of Europe on a discussion on hate speech. In the light of the current rise of hate speech, on and off-line targeting minorities but also media and journalists, finding balance between fighting the issue and the right to freedom of expression represents a challenging question. During the panel “Hate speech as the negation of EU Values'' from 12:30 to 14:00 (Athens Time), Mr PENNINCKX talked about the work of the Expert Committee on Combating Hate Speech (ADI/MSI-DIS), the need to prevent the misuse of hate speech laws and many other issues.
