Two training sessions on gender equality and media for journalists and representatives of civil society were organised in Mingachevir on 30-31 May 2019 within the framework of the Council of Europe project “Gender equality and media freedom in Azerbaijan". The main aim of the training sessions was to raise awareness on the Council of Europe standards on gender equality and media among journalists and civil society representatives from Aran region of Azerbaijan. The Code of professional ethics for Azerbaijani journalists, recently revised from a gender equality perspective also presented in the training sessions to promote the new rules among the journalists.
The training sessions were organized in close cooperation with the Ombudsman Office and the Press Council. Over 40 journalists and representatives of civil society from the Aran region - Agdash, Bilasuvar, Beylagan, Mingachevir, Goychay, Ujar, Yevlakh and Barda were brought together in Mingachevir for the training sessions. The participants took an active part in discussions on the role of media in strengthening gender equality standards and combating gender stereotypes and the main challenges faced by the media in the regions.
