As announced by Thierry Frémaux, General Delegate of the Cannes Film Festival this morning, it is Leos Carax's highly anticipated film Annette that will open the 74^th Cannes Film Festival on 6 July. This co-production between France, Germany and Belgium, supported by the Eurimages Fund, will be released simultaneously in French cinemas and is the first film selected for the festival's official competition. Eurimages had already supported the film Pola X by the same director, which was also selected in competition at the Cannes Festival in 1999.
