Training on prevention of ill-treatment for 150 police and prison officers

More than 150 prison and police officers have increased their knowledge on human rights of detained and sentenced people through a series of cascade training sessions. Teams of national trainers established within the Ministry of Justice and the Ministry of Interior and trained under the auspices of the action “Enhancing human rights protection for detained and sentenced persons in Montenegro” shared the newly obtained skills and knowledge with their peers. The training assisted prison and police staff to refine their practical skills and will lead to change in their attitude, as well as raise the level of standards towards the prevention of ill-treatment.

The training teams and the cascade training sessions are part of a comprehensive capacity building effort lasting two years that will assure the sustainability of the training after the completion of the actions and will contribute to bringing the standards and practice applied in Montenegrin national institutions closer to the Council of Europe and especially standards set out by the European Committee for the Prevention of Torture and Inhuman or Degrading Treatment or Punishment.

The cascade training sessions were organized within the action “Enhancing human rights protection for detained and sentenced persons in Montenegro”, as a part of the programme “Horizontal Facility for Western Balkans and Turkey” funded by the European Union and co-funded and implemented by the Council of Europe.
