CyberSouth: Workshop on the Budapest Convention on Cybercrime in Tunisia

Within the framework of CyberSouth project on cybercrime capacity building, Council of Europe organised a workshop on the Budapest Convention on Cybercrime at the National School of Administration (Ecole Nationale d’Administration) on 6-7 September 2018, in Tunis, Tunisia.

The Budapest Convention on Cybercrime is the pillar of Council of Europe’s capacity building programmes. Therefore, CyberSouth project launched a series of workshops in its priority countries dedicated to the Budapest Convention on cybercrime gathering in each country representatives of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Ministry of Justice, Ministry of Interior, specialised police units and specialised prosecution unit, Ministry of Defence and Ministry of Communication Technology and Digital Economy. This meeting follows the previous one organised in Algeria on September 2, 2018.

Tunisia, as an invited country to accede to this treaty, is fully aware of the need to become fully compliant before finalising the accession procedure. This meeting was an opportunity to discuss in detail every provision of the Budapest Convention to make sure that there was a common understanding on the requirements under this treaty. Tunisia is finalising a draft law that will give its authorities a strong legal framework on cybercrime and electronic evidence and make of Tunisia a strong partner for the international community.
