Seminar on Council of Europe Convention on Access to Official Documents and the Right of Access to Information in Tunisia

On May 31, 2023, in the framework of the South Programme V "Protecting human rights, rule of law and democracy through shared standards in the Southern Mediterranean" (South Programme V), FREX-PLUM_ Freedom of Expression and Pluralistic Media,  hosted a seminar on Council of Europe Convention on Access to Official Documents (Tromsø Convention) and the Right of Access to Information in Tunisia, in the presence of representant of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the President of the Tunisian Instance of Access to Information , Ms Pilar Morales Head of the Council of Europe Office in Tunis and Coordinator of the Neighbourhood Policy with the Southern Mediterranean, and Mr Tony Pavlovski Deputy Head of the Council of Europe Office in Tunis and Elvana Thaci, Secretary to the Monitoring Mechanism of the Tromsø Convention. The aim of the seminar was to raise awareness among Tunisian partners, in particular the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the Instance, of the standards of the Convention on Access to Official Documents (Tromsø Convention). The seminar also provided a comparative analytical study of the Tunisian legal framework for the right of access to information and the Council of Europe's Treaty on Access to Official Documents, which fostered an exchange of views on the general procedures of accession to the Tromsø Convention.
