The Nizhny Tagil Charter for the safeguard of industrial heritage

Closing the cycle of meetings “I Venerdì di RESpiro”, aimed at the promotion of editorial projects, on 18 June the book “La Carta di Nizhny Tagil e la tutela del patrimonio industriale in Italia”, written by Maddalena Chimisso and Roberto Parisi, was presented. The initiative was organized by the association RESpro - Network of Historians for Production’s Landscapes.

The book, dedicated to the protection of the Italian industrial heritage, stems from the desire to revive, also at regulatory level, the debate on the challenges of conservation and reuse. Drawing on the contribution of experts in industrial archaeology and examining in depth the contents and aims of the Nizhny Tagil Charter (2003), the authors bring to the attention of institutions, scholars and operators a reflection on the results of the preservation and enhancement policies promoted in the last twenty years.

The presentation was attended by the Head of the Italian Office of the Council of Europe, Luisella Pavan-Woolfe, who emphasized the importance of the book in fostering greater awareness of the value of industrial cultural heritage, an objective that the Council of Europe has long pursued, in particular through the instruments offered by the Faro Convention and the European Cultural Routes programme
