On 24 March 2023 in Strasbourg, the European Committee for the Prevention of Torture and Inhuman or Degrading Treatment or Punishment (CPT) published the report on its periodic visit to Italy conducted between March and April 2022, together with the response by the Italian authorities (https://rm.coe.int/1680aaaa2d).

During the visit, the CPT delegation examined the treatment and conditions of detention of persons held in four prisons. It also assessed the treatment of patients in the psychiatric wards of four hospitals and, for the first time, of elderly people in two health and long-term care facilities.
