Consultative function and fundamental human rights on the frontline at Ca’ Foscari University

On 10 December 2021 the conference “Consultative function and fundamental human rights: new perspectives in the Eurasian space” took place at Ca’ Foscari University, Venice. The Italian Representation of the Council of Europe in collaboration with Ca’ Foscari University and Centro Studi sui Diritti Umani (CESTUDIR) organised the event on the occasion of the 73rd anniversary of the promulgation of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights.

Luisella Pavan-Woolfe, Head of the Council of Europe Venice office, emphasized the need to protect human rights on a daily basis and in every place of the world. She highlighted how heavily the Covid pandemic has impacted the lives of those more vulnerable: children, women and migrants. She also underlined the importance of the European Convention of Human Rights, which provides unequalled protection for more that 840 million Europeans. Astrakhan State University Professor Rafik Khammatovic Usmanov, and Ca’ Foscari University Professors Gabriele Asta, Patricio Barbirotto and Sara De Vido intervened and spoke of the consultative function of human rights courts.
