New Regulations on the Protection of Personal Data have been adopted on 15 June 2022 by Resolution CM/Res(2022)14 of the Committee of Ministers and have entered into force on 1 January 2023.

In accordance with these new Regulations, the Council of Europe ensures protection of all individuals, whatever their nationality or residence, with regard to the processing of their personal data by the Organisation, thereby contributing to respect for their human rights and fundamental freedoms, and in particular their right to privacy.

The new Regulations on the Protection of Personal Data repeal the Regulation of 17 April 1989 instituting a system of data protection for personal data files at the Council of Europe.
