Human Rights Trust Fund discusses future project proposals with the Registry of the European Court of Human Rights and Council of Europe Directorates

On 13 October 2025 the Assembly of Contributors of the Human Rights Trust Fund (HRTF), met in Strasbourg for their 36th meeting under the chairmanship of Ambassador Caitríona Doyle, Permanent Representative of Ireland.

The Assembly heard presentations from the Registry of the European Court of Human Rights and the Council of Europe’s Directorates of Human Rights and Rule of Law (DGI) and Democracy and Human Dignity (DG II). Six projects were discussed, addressing issues such as the execution of Court judgments, judicial cooperation in Kosovo*, environmental rights, responsible business practices, and the protection of Roma and Travellers. Contributors agreed to continue examining these proposals ahead of the next meeting in spring 2026.

The Assembly also welcomed recent outreach to local embassies involved in project activities in Albania and Romania.

Since its creation in 2008, the HRTF has funded a total of 57 projects, with commitments over 26 million Euros.

The purpose of the HRTF is, inter alia, to support efforts of member States to meet their commitments under the European Convention on Human Rights and other Council of Europe human rights standards. The Fund brings together Finland, Germany, Ireland, Luxembourg, the Netherlands, Norway, Switzerland and the United Kingdom.
