A new two-year project was launched on 25 September 2025 in Tirana, Albania, to promote alternatives to detention and reduce reliance on pre-trial detention, with the aim of strengthening the protection of the right to liberty and security in Albania.
The launch event brought together representatives of Albania’s judiciary, independent institutions, civil society and academia, alongside Council of Europe officials and a representative of the European Court of Human Rights.
The project “Strengthening the capacities of the Albanian judiciary to better apply standards on the right to liberty and security” is supported by the Human Rights Trust Fund (HRTF) with a contribution of €300 000.
The presence of the Ambassador of the Kingdom of the Netherlands, the Deputy Head of Mission of Germany, the Deputy Head of Mission of Ireland, and the Second Secretary Political of the United Kingdom highlighted the collective commitment of the HRTF donor countries to advancing human rights and the rule of law in Albania.
