The EU/CoE action on Freedom of Expression and Freedom of the media in Kosovo* (JUFREX2) in cooperation with the Academy of Justice organised a two-day training for prosecutors and police officers on Protection and Safety of Journalists, from 17-18 June 2021.
More than 30 prosecutors from different Basic Prosecution Offices and officials from Kosovo Police actively participated in the training.
Thematic areas such as risks and threats against journalists and measures to mitigate them, the promotion of a favorable environment for journalism and the avoidance of impunity, were discussed during the first day of the training.
The second day of the training was focused on Council of Europe standards in the field of protection and safety of journalists as well as local legal and institutional framework. Concrete examples from the European Court of Human Rights case law were presented and accompanied with interactive discussions by participants.
This Action is part of the “Horizontal Facility for the Western Balkans and Turkey II”, a co-operation initiative co-funded by the European Union and the Council of Europe and implemented by the Council of Europe, which aims at assisting Beneficiaries in the Western Balkans region and Turkey to comply with the Council of Europe standards and European Union acquis in the framework of the enlargement process, where relevant.
