Global Education Week 2022: let’s take action in November to promote solidarity and fairness through education.

The Global Education Week is back! The 2022 edition will take place from 14 to 20 November, and will be an opportunity to support and promote Global Education, as a call and a tool for dialogue and peace to present and future generations.

The Global Education Week is a world-wide awareness raising campaign and a call to rethink our world together, using Global Education as a tool for solidarity and change. It is open to Non-Governmental Organisations, teachers, educators, governments and individuals and calls each of us to play our role as global citizens and contribute to a more sustainable and equitable world, by sharing solutions to rethink our habits and ways of living.

As in previous years, under the motto “It’s our world, let’s take action together!”, the Global Education Week 2022 will promote the activities proposed by the Global Education Network and participating organisations under the overarching theme of the Sustainable Development Goals, with a special focus on peace and partnership pillars.

To officially launch the preparation of the Global Education Week, an online participatory info session will be held on 13 October, at 2:30pm (CET), in English.

The info session will be hosted jointly by the North-South Centre of the Council of Europe and its Global Education Network, and it will be open to all interested parties, thus representing a precious occasion to:

explain the functioning of the Global Education Week to new participants willing to join the initiative.

exchange inputs and ideas among the community, giving and taking inspiration for the organisation of events during the Week.

During the first part of the session, the North South Centre of the Council of Europe will provide a general overview of the Global Education Week and the activities planned for this year.

Further on, thematic breakout sessions will be created to facilitate the exchange among participants. A specific group will be dedicated to “newcomers”,

In order to attend the info session, please register here.

The activities will be progressively registered by the national coordinators on the 2022 Global Education Week webpage.

Global education is education that opens people’s eyes and minds to the realities of the globalised world and awakens them to bring about a world of greater justice, equity and Human Rights for all.

The Maastricht Declaration, 2002.

Global education is a pedagogical approach that fosters multiple perspectives and the deconstruction of stereotypes and builds on a learner centred approach to foster critical awareness of global challenges and engagement for sustainable lifestyles.

Global Education competences build on development education, human rights education, education for sustainability, education for peace and conflict prevention and intercultural education, all being the global dimension of education for citizenship.

The North-South Centre’s work for the development of global education started in 1991 with pioneer regional multistakeholder seminars on the issue. They led to the drafting of the Global Education Charter in 1997, which became its reference background document, later consolidated by the recommendations from European global education multistakeholder congresses and regional seminars, as well as a capacity building scheme for formal and non-formal educators.

Ever since, the North-South Centre has been contributing to global education advocacy and pedagogical support through a number of initiatives, at institutional and education levels.
