Ioannina (Greece): World Refugee Day is a time for solidarity with both the refugees and the communities that welcome them

On 20 June 2018, refugees, humanitarian actors and the host community came together to enjoy live music by an amateur refugee band, food prepared by refugees, a workshop on the art of calligraphy, a cooking workshop for children and adolescents, an art exhibition by theProject Hope for Kids, Second Tree and Soma Ellinikou Odigismou, a photo exhibition by refugees and a face painting activity.

The World Refugee Day main event took place in Katsari Park, while English and Arabic Welcoming Classes were organised at the Community Centre

On Saturday, 23 June, a Greek and refugee children football tournament will also take place

The events were co-organised by the UNHCR, the Municipality of Ioannina, the Municipality of Zitsa, IEK IOANNINON, ASB, Arsis, Iliaktida, INTERSOS, Solidarity Now, Terre des Hommes (Tdh), KEAN/ IAC, Second Tree, Project Hope for Kids, Soup and Socks (Habibi Works), Hellenic Red Cross, Elliniko Soma Odigismou- SEO, and supported by VIKOS, EPIRUS FOOTBALL ARENA, IEK IOANNINON.

Deputy Mayor Pantelis Kolokas is one of the signatories of the ICC Joint letter for the 2018 World Refugee Day
