Back Getxo “For diversity against discrimination”

"For diversity, against discrimination" is the slogan that the city of Getxo has chosen to mark the whole set of activities promoted for the International Day against Racial Discrimination and Xenophobia. Planned thanks to a collaboration among the city, civil society organisations, and citizens, the activities aimed to actively promote a positive approach to cultural diversity, "an inclusive, intercultural and anti-racist model of city, for which the city council, social entities and citizens work, inspired by the Universal Declaration of Human Rights, that next December will turn 70 years", said the city councilor in charge of Immigration and Interculturality Unit, Ms Elena Coria.

The programme included a wide range of activities such as a DJing/Hip-Hop workshop against racism, an Intercultural Graffiti session by local youth, the public launch of the comic "A gift for Kushbu: stories that cross borders".

Moreover, the cine-club cycle scheduled the screening of "Detroit", a movie about the race riots of 1967. Also, a public conference on helplessness, populism and xenophobia was also organised, so as a workshop on “Public rental: barriers and solutions”, planned by the Getxo Immigrant Platform Federation. Finally, the Matiz association and the city libraries have launched three workshops on coexistence in diversity through stories for children between four and six years of age.
