Barcelona, Bursa-Osmangazi, and Dublin: intercultural cities at the Marmara Urban Forum

The Council of Europe’s Intercultural Cities Programme together Resilience in Local Governance Turkey Project (RESLOG) hosted an online session “Intercultural Cities: Living Together in Diversity” in MARUF on 3rd of October.

On 1-3 October the intercultural cities of Barcelona, Bursa-Osmangazi, and Dublin participated in the Marmara Urban Forum (MARUF), a biennial international event taking place this year under the motto “Cities Developing Solutions”.

The Forum was organised by the Marmara Municipalities’ Union (MMU), a regional government association gathering over 190 members in the Marmara Region (Turkey). MARUF strives not only to discuss the challenges that cities face but also to seek solutions to share, and multiply good practices at a global scale.

As a part of MARUF 2021, the Intercultural Cities programme and RESLOG Turkey organised an online session under the tile “Intercultural Cities: Living Together in Diversity”.

The panel started with the keynote speeches of the Head of the Inclusion and Anti-Discrimination Division, Ms. Irena Guidikova, and the National Project Manager of RESLOG, Mr. Sinan Özden. In the panel, the Integration Officer from the City of Dublin Ms. Mary Linch, the Mayor of Bursa-Osmangazi, Mr. Mustafa Dündar, the Director of Social Innovation of the Barcelona City Council, Mr. Lluís Torrens, and the Advisor to the Mayor of Adana Metropolitan Municipality, Ms. İpek Sabah Aynal shared their experiences and approaches to providing inclusive municipal services and creating suitable environment for coexistence.
