On 18 and 19 May in New York, the Executive Secretary participated and delivered a statement at the High-Level Meeting of the United Nations General Assembly on the Midterm Review of the Implementation of the Sendai Framework for Disaster Risk Reduction. The meeting was convened by the President of the seventy-seventh session of the United Nations General Assembly and co-organised by the United Nations Europe Office for Disaster Risk Reduction. The High-Level Meeting adopted an action-oriented political declaration to renew commitments and accelerate the implementation of the Sendai Framework which will inform, inter alia: the quadrennial review of the SDGs at the UN High-level Political Forum on Sustainable Development (HLPF) in July 2023; the SDG Summit and the UN Secretary General’s Summit of the Future at the 78th session of the UN General Assembly (UNGA) in September 2023; and the UN Climate Change Conference (UNFCCC COP 28) in November 2023.

In addition to the general meeting, the Executive Secretary attended the Leaders’ Roundtable on Preventing Risk and Capitalizing on Opportunities from Rapid Technological Change.
