Global Platform for Disaster Risk Reduction

On 4 – 6 June 2025 the Executive Secretary of the Agreement participated in Geneva in the Eight Session of the Global Platform for Disaster Risk Reduction (GP2025) held under the theme “Every Day Counts, Act for Resilience Today”, convened and organised by UNDRR. Over 3000 participants from a total of 164 countries participated in person in the GP2025, with further 600 joining online. The GP2025 built on the conclusions of regional meetings such as the UN European and Central Asian Platform for Disaster Risk Reduction (EPDRR) that UNDRR co-organised with EUR-OPA Major Hazards Agreement and DG ECHO in Budva, Montenegro on 6 – 8 November 2024.

In his address the Executive Secretary drew the participants’ attention to the “Reykjavík Process” stemming from the Summit of Heads of State and Government, and the recently adopted CoE Convention on the Protection of the Environment through Criminal Law and the new Strategy on the Environment. His statement is included in the record of the Platform here.

Ms Sofia Karma, Director of the European Centre for Forest Fires, in Athens, Greece, made a presentation at the Ignite Stage on “Disability Inclusion in Building Disaster Resilience”.
