The Committee of Permanent Correspondents of the EUR-OPA Major Hazards Agreement held its 83rd meeting on 20 May 2025 by videoconference. The main aim of the meeting was to discuss “Perceptions of global warming and threats of natural hazards and on eco-emotions and differences in perception of populations” on the basis of the research presented by Professor Rouven Doran (Department of Psychosocial Science, University of Bergen, Norway) and considered the activities of the International Commission on Missing Persons (ICMP) in particular as regarding persons missing due to natural and technological disasters.
Furthermore, the permanent correspondents were informed, via a prerecorded presentation by Mr Arnold Pronto, Director of the Codification Division of the UN Office of Legal Affairs, about the advancements towards adoption of the proposed UN Convention on the Protection of Persons in the Event of Disasters (PPED) and engaged with Ms Martina Müller, UNDRR Programme Management Officer on the possible contribution to the drafting process by the EUR-OPA member States.
The Committee also considered the recent developments of the Council of Europe activities in the field of environment, and discussed the financial situation of the Agreement.
