The 23rd edition of the Etoiles et Toiles du Cinéma Européen event ended last night in Strasbourg after two weeks of screenings at the UGC Cine Cité cinema of a remarkable selection of 10
co-productions supported by the Eurimages Fund.
At the closing ceremony the jury, composed of diplomats and senior Council of Europe officials, awarded the following honorary prizes:
- the Odyssée - Council of Europe Award for Human Rights for HOLY SPIDER (DK, DE, SE, FR) by
Ali Abbasi;
This film masterfully evokes the Council of Europe's founding values with perfect intensity, while demonstrating the topicality, necessity and complexity of their implementation.
- the Odyssée-Council of Europe Award for Artistic Creation for AS BESTAS (ES, FR) by
Rodrigo Sorogoyen
This film skilfully builds a world whose protagonists struggle with contradictory and extremely current issues.
Finally, the jury decided to award a Special Mention to Joachim Trier's co-production THE WORST PERSON IN THE WORLD which brings together Norway, France, Sweden and Denmark.
This film follows with tenderness and originality the journey of a young woman who encompasses the expectations, worries, and contradictions of contemporary youth.
