The Council of Europe is organizing the Training of Trainers for First Responders on Cybercrime and Electronic Evidence in collaboration with the Gendarmerie Nationale of Senegal, at the Ecole d’Officiers de la Gendarmerie Nationale (E.O.G.N).
It is a course for young officers, integrated in their training curricula in judicial police delivered in this school with regional coverage. In a few weeks, they will join their first assignment and will also be able to be trainers on cybercrime and digital evidence for first responders, allowing their peers to better understand cybercrime, to be able to properly receive complaints from victims of this new type of offences and to search and seize electronic evidence in a way that it retains its probative value for the criminal trial.
Sixty-two officers from fifteen countries of the Organization of African Gendarmeries participate in this training: Burkina Faso, Congo Brazzaville, Ivory Coast, Djibouti, Gabon, Guinea, Equatorial Guinea, Madagascar, Mali, Mauritania, Niger, Central African Republic, Senegal, Chad and Togo.
Senegal ratified the Budapest Convention in December 2016 and has been playing a pioneering role in its region and more widely on the African continent in the prevention of cyber threats and the fight against cybercrime, as part of the GLACY+ project.
