GLACY+: Cybercrime First Responders Training for the African Gendarmerie Officers

In continuation of the previous series of trainings delivered in June 2019, during June 28th - July 2nd, 2021, the Council of Europe organized the Training of Trainers for First Responders on Cybercrime and Electronic Evidence. The event was organized under the framework of the joint European Union – Council of Europe GLACY+ project, in collaboration with the Gendarmerie Nationale of Senegal, at the Ecole d’Officiers de la Gendarmerie Nationale (E.O.G.N).

The purpose of the training was to establish a pool of trainers who will be able to instruct their peers on how to approach a crime scene containing electronic evidence and on how to process the evidence while preserving its integrity and value. With the support of the two Council of Europe experts, the training created the set-up for the participants to develop their training skills, specific knowledge on cybercrime and the organization of group activities.

The online course was delivered to approximately 30 officers coming from 16 member countries of the African Gendarmerie Organisation including Burkina Faso, Cameroon, Chad, Congo, Cote d'Ivoire, Djibouti, Equatorial Guinea, Gabon, Guinea, Madagascar, Mali, Mauritania, Niger and Togo and also 20 officers coming from Senegal.

The GLACY+ Project will continue to support the country in its future endeavors to train officers who come into contact with cybercrime or electronic evidence in the course of their duties.
