CyberSouth: Participation in Euromed police and Justice Regional Workshop for Euro-Mediterranean Cybercrime and Digital Evidence Contact Points

CyberSouth participated in the regional workshop for euro-mediterranean cybercrime and digital evidence contact points along with representatives from the Ministry of Justice of Romania, the Romanian Police, the European Commission, the European Judicial Network, UN CTED, Algeria, Israel, Jordan, Morocco, Palestine and Tunisia. Euromed Justice and Police presented the final version of the “manual on digital evidence” that is a guide on how to obtain data from service providers abroad. The meeting was also the occasion to conduct a live exercise on how to draft a mutual legal assistance request. European Commission presented the updates on the E-evidence package and the platform to exchange electronic evidence that triggered interest from the practitioners in the workshop.

The workshop was an opportunity for the Council of Europe to explain the Budapest Convention on Cybercrime and its practical functioning mechanism through its operational 24/7 Network and its Cybercrime Convention Committee. The Chair of the Cybercrime Convention Committee, Cristina Schulman presented the updates on the work on the additional Protocol to the Budapest Convention. The workshop helped also to bring some clarity on CyberSouth initiative to create a network of magistrates on cybercrime and electronic evidence within the next coming months in cooperation with General Prosecution Office of Portugal.
