CyberSouth: Developing partnerships in fighting against cybercrime in the MENA region

Interpol General Secretariat co-hosted the 11th Middle East and North Africa Working Group Meeting on Cybercrime for Heads of Units in cooperation with the project CyberSouth during 4-5 April 2018 at the Algerian Police - Directorate General for National Security.

Topics discussed during the meeting included cybercrime training strategy, digital forensics, investigative support, cyber intelligence sharing, developing strong legislation and building capacity to fight against cybercrime in MENA region.

The need for collaboration between police and the private sector was highlighted by most of the participants, which revealed a significant growth in cybercriminals in the region using social engineering frauds to target businesses and individuals.

Private sector partners including Trend Micro, the Internet Corporation for Assigned Names and Numbers (ICANN) shared their expertise with the participants.

Participating countries funded by CyberSouth Project were Tunisia, Morocco, Lebanon and Jordan.
