Back Turkey: International Workshop on Cybercrime

Kizilcahaman, Turkey ,

The 5th International Workshop on Cybercrime was organised by the Cybercrime Department of the Turkish National Police in Kizilcahaman, Ankara, from 10 to 13 December 2018. In his opening speech, the General Director of Security, Celal Uzunkaya, highlighted the measures taken by Turkey to counter attacks against computers, the misuse of payment systems, the sexual abuse of children and illegal betting but also to strengthen capacities for the examination of digital evidence, in particular in relation to the investigations and prosecutions related to the failed coup of July 2016.

Alexander Seger, Head of the Council of Europe’s Cybercrime Division underlined that Turkey plays a strong role in international cooperation on cybercrime but that reassurance was needed that rules and procedures are followed and that rule of law requirements are respected when electronic evidence is used in criminal proceedings.
