Nametso Mothoka

Nametso Mothoka obtained his Bachelor of Laws (LLB) in 2003 from the University of Botswana and holds Masters of Law (LLM) in Legislative Studies from the University of London, School of Advanced Legal Studies (UK) in 2008. He is an Attorney of the High Court of Botswana. He currently works at the Attorney General’s Chambers of Botswana as Deputy Secretary for Legislative Drafting (Law Reform) in the Legislative Drafting Division. With 20 years of extensive experience in Legislative Drafting. As a Legislative Counsel he has drafted numerous pieces of legislation both Primary (Acts of Parliament) and Secondary (Regulations) of varying degrees of complexity for the Government of Botswana.

During the past decade some of his work has been focused on advising Government of Botswana on the formulation and drafting of E-Government legislation. The project resulted in the enactment of the following pieces of legislation:

  • Electronic Communications and Transactions Act of 2014
  • Electronic Records (Evidence) Act of 2014
  • Cyber Crime and Computer Related Crimes Act of 2018
  • Data Protection Act of 2018
