Jamila Akaaga Ade

Jamila Akaaga Ade (Nee Maishanu), MCIArb. (UK), FIMC., ACIS has a law degree from Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria (2004); a BL from the Nigerian Law School (2005) where she won the ‘Best in Civil Trials’ Award, an LLM from the prestigious African University of Cape Town, South Africa (2009) and over 15 years post-call experience. Her passion for community development among others led to the conferment of State and National Honors on her during the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) in 2006. She emerged as the Best Female Corps Member of the Year and was given an automatic employment in the Federal Civil Service of Nigeria in January 2007 as a State Counsel in the Federal Ministry of Justice.

She has a wide range of experience: civil litigation, tourism and national orientation, international law, prison reforms, marine & environmental law, international asset recovery, corporate governance and alternative dispute resolutions. In her years of service, she has been privileged to serve in various capacities which include: Legal Assistant to one-time Honorable Minister of Tourism, Culture and National Orientation (2007); Pioneer Head of Legal Services, National Agency for the Great Green Wall (2014) and Personal Assistant to the erstwhile Solicitor General of the Federation and Permanent Secretary, Federal Ministry of Justice (2020). She is an Assistant Director and currently heads the Department of Public Prosecutions at the Federal Ministry of Justice in 2022.  

Jamila is Nigeria’s TCY Representative & Bureau Member, GLACY+ National Coordinator and Co-Chair of the Diplomacy and Capacity Building Working Group of the Counter Ransomware Initiative (CRI), U.S.A. She also represents Nigeria at sessions of the Ad Hoc Committee on the Elaboration of a Comprehensive International Convention on Countering the Use of Information and Communications Technologies for Criminal Purposes.

She founded a not-for-profit organization called the Connect Life Initiative and volunteers her time to helping teenagers and young adults to live purpose driven lives. She similarly serves on the board of some faith based not-for-profit organizations.
