GLACY+: Workshop for police and prosecutors in Mauritius on interpretation and application of the new cybercrime legislation

On 25-26 May, the Council of Europe and INTERPOL, under the GLACY+ Project, organized a two-day workshop for police and prosecutors in Mauritius on the interpretation and application of the country’s new Cybersecurity and Cybercrime Act. The Act was adopted in November 2021, following support from the GLACY+ project.

Led by international experts, with extensive input from national expert practitioners, the workshop focused on increasing police and prosecutors’ knowledge and understanding of the new offences introduced by the Cybersecurity and Cybercrime Act 2021, how to interpret them, and how to successfully investigate and prosecute these offences. Participants also learned on how to strengthen inter-agency and international cooperation by taking full advantage of the new provisions under the Act.

This workshop is the first in a series of workshops organised in cooperation with the Mauritian authorities to ensure criminal justice practitioners have the necessary knowledge to fulfil their roles in conducting successfully investigating, prosecuting and adjudicating cases of cybercrime under the new law. Subsequent workshops targeting magistrates and judges will follow later in 2022.
