GLACY+ and Octopus Project: Legislative workshop on cybercrime and electronic evidence in Nauru

On 14 December, representatives of the criminal justice authorities from Nauru participated in a workshop on cybercrime and electronic evidence legislation that was organized jointly by the GLACY+ and Octopus Project.

The purpose of this workshop was to conduct an assessment of the Nauru’s legislation on cybercrime and e-evidence and provide recommendations for its harmonisation with the international standards of the Budapest Convention on Cybercrime. The activity was facilitated by Council of Europe experts who analyzed the state of cybercrime legislation in Nauru by focusing on three main aspects - substantive provisions, international cooperation, and procedural powers.

During the workshop the experts engaged in an active dialogue with the representatives of Nauru’s criminal justice authorities and offered insights and recommendations that would help them improve their domestic legislation.

This was the second workshop from a series of activities focusing on Nauru’s legislation on cybercrime, electronic evidence and online child sexual abuse. Follow up support will continue to be provided by the Council of Europe to Nauru for completing the harmonization process.
