GLACY+ and Octopus Project: Workshop on international standards on cybercrime and electronic evidence: the role of foreign policymakers

The GLACY+ and Octopus projects implemented by the Council of Europe, in cooperation with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Colombia, the Colombian Embassy in Madrid and the Ministry of Justice of Spain organized during 27-29 April, a 3-day hybrid workshop in Bogota, Colombia with the aim of strengthening the role of policy makers in the global debate on cybercrime legislation.

The event offered participants the opportunity to increase their knowledge on the Budapest Convention (including tools and procedures on international cooperation) and enable them to have an informed participation in the process of negotiating the future UN Treaty on cybercrime. The workshop also facilitated the dialogue between the criminal justice practitioners and policymakers, benefiting from the active participation and contribution of officials of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in Bogota and foreign policymakers of Colombian Embassies in Vienna, New York and Madrid along with officials from Ministry of Justice and prosecutors involved in cybercrime cases.

On the last day, participants visited the Centro Cibernetico de la Policia in Bogota which provided a hands-on and interactive approach of the matters under discussion during the workshop.

The workshop is part of a wider GLACY+ plan aiming at strengthening the dialogue between the criminal justice practitioners and foreign and domestic policymakers.
