On 3 April 2023, the CyberSouth joint project of the Council of Europe and the European Union and the Data Protection Unit of the Council of Europe organised the online workshop “The links between cybercrime investigations and data protection regulation“ with the Algerian Ministry of Justice and the National Authority on Data Protection.
Gathering representatives from the Algerian justice sector, law enforcement authorities, and of the Algerian National Data Protection Authority, currently being established, the workshop offered the opportunity to discuss the Algerian legal framework on data protection, as well as the international standards set by the Convention 108+ and the Second Additional Protocol to the Convention on Cybercrime (Budapest Convention) .
An important part of the discussions was dedicated to the experience of Tunisia in regulating the protection of personal data, shared by Mr. Chawki Gaddes, the president of the National Authority for Personal Data Protection (INPDP), thus facilitating a direct exchange of experiences between the two CyberSouth priority countries.
After Lebanon and Jordan in February 2023, this workshop continued the series of activities aimed at increasing the understanding and application of international standards in the cybercrime and data protection areas.
