The ECML (33 member states) has as its mission the implementation of language policies and the promotion of innovative approaches to the learning and teaching of modern languages. In particular, the Centre develops projects in the field of language education which result in the organisation of workshops and seminars. It offers a platform of co-operation between experts, associations and institutions.
The executive organ of the European Union, based in Brussels, which monitors the proper application of the Union treaties and the decisions of the Union institutions.
Section Education and Training
ALTE - The Association of Language Testers in Europe (participatory status with the Council of Europe)
An association of institutions within Europe, each of which produces examinations and certification for language learners. Each member provides examinations of the language which is spoken as a mother tongue in their own country or region.
European Language Council (ELC)
Filling a unique niche in Europe's language panorama, the CEL/ELC has unique contact to universities, language institutions, the Council of Europe, and the European Commission, mediating at the various levels to envisage, anticipate and adapt to the future language landscape.
EALTA - European Association for Language Testing and Assessment (participatory status with the Council of Europe)
A professional association for language testers in Europe. Its purpose is to promote the understanding of theoretical principles of language testing and assessment, and the improvement and sharing of testing and assessment practices throughout Europe.
EAQUALS - Evaluation & Accreditation of Quality in Language Services (participatory status with the Council of Europe)
A pan-European Association of language training providers aiming to promote and guarantee quality in modern language teaching institutions.
