The Inter-American Development Bank
The Inter-American Development Bank, the oldest and largest regional multilateral development institution, was established in December of 1959 to help accelerate economic and social development in Latin America and the Caribbean.

The North American Development Bank
The North American Development Bank (NADB) is an international financial institution established and capitalised in equal parts by the United States and Mexico for the purpose of financing environmental infrastructure projects.

The Organisation of American States
The Organisation of American States (OAS) is playing a central role in working toward many of the goals that are shared by the countries of North, Central and South America and the Caribbean: strengthening democracy, advancing human rights, promoting peace and security, expanding trade and tackling complex problems caused by poverty, drugs and corruption

Asia 

Asian Human Rights Commission
The Asian Human Rights Commission (AHRC) was founded in 1986 by a prominent group of jurists and human rights activists in Asia. The AHRC is an independent, non-governmental body, which seeks to promote greater awareness and realisation of human rights in the Asian region, and to mobilise Asian and international public opinion to obtain relief and redress for the victims of human rights violations. The AHRC promotes civil and political rights, as well as economic, social and cultural rights.

Association of Southeast Asian Nations
The Association of Southeast Asian Nations or ASEAN was established on 8 August 1967 in Bangkok by the five original Member Countries, namely, Indonesia, Malaysia, the Philippines, Singapore and Thailand. Brunei Darussalam joined on 8 January 1984, Vietnam on 28 July 1995, Laos and Myanmar on 23 July 1997, and Cambodia on 30 April 1999. The aims and purposes of the Association are to accelerate economic growth, social progress and cultural development in the region through joint endeavours in the spirit of equality and partnership, in order to strengthen the foundation for a prosperous and peaceful community of Southeast Asian nations, and to promote regional peace and stability through abiding respect for justice and the rule of law in the relationship among countries in the region and adherence to the principles of the United Nations Charter.

Asian Development Bank
The ADB is a multilateral development finance institution dedicated to reducing poverty in Asia and the Pacific.

Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation
Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) was established in 1989 in response to the growing interdependence among Asia-Pacific economies. From its modest beginning as an informal Ministerial-level dialogue group with 12 members, APEC has become a formidable regional forum.

Europe 

The European Bank for Reconstruction and Development
The European Bank for Reconstruction and Development was established in 1991 when communism was crumbling in central and eastern Europe and ex-Soviet countries needed support to nurture a new private sector in a democratic environment. Today the EBRD uses the tools of investment to help build market economies and democracies in 27 countries from central Europe to central Asia.

The Organisation for Security and Co-operation in Europe
The Organisation for Security and Co-operation in Europe (OSCE) is the largest regional security organisation in the world with 55 participating states from Europe, Central Asia and North America. It is active in early warning, conflict prevention, crisis management and post-conflict rehabilitation.

The Directorate General of Human Rights of the Council of Europe

The Directorate General of Human Rights provides secretarial support for bodies established under the European Social Charter, the European Convention for the Prevention of Torture, the Framework Convention for the Protection of National Minorities and for the European Commission against Racism and Intolerance. The Directorate also assists in the implementation of the Council of Europe's inter-governmental programme of activities and assists the Committee of Ministers in the exercise of its functions under the European Convention on Human Rights.

European Treaties

The partnership between the Council of Europe and the European Commission for Training and Youth
In November 1998 the European Commission and the Council of Europe signed an agreement to co-operate in the field of training and youth. Both institutions are active in the field of youth worker training in different ways and using different tools. After a series of negotiations the two European institutions decided to combine their strengths in a partnership in order to develop a training programme promoting common values such as human rights, pluralist democracy, the rule of law, active citizenship and European co-operation.

International level

Commonwealth
The Commonwealth is a unique family of 54 developed and developing nations around the world. It is a voluntary association of independent sovereign states spread over every continent and ocean. Its 1.7 billion people account for 30 percent of the world's population. They are found in every continent and ocean and are of many religions, races, languages and cultures.

The Community of Portuguese-speaking Countries
The Community of Portuguese-speaking Countries (CPLP) is an international organisation founded in 1996 and comprised of the following members: Angola, Brazil, Cape Verde, Guinea-Bissau, Mozambique, Portugal, and São Tomé and Principe; East Timor enjoys observer status. Its aim is to enhance ties between the members on issues concerning international relations.

The United Nations Food and Agriculture Organisation
The United Nations Food and Agriculture Organisation was founded in October 1945 with the goal of improving the nutritional status, level of life, farming production and conditions of rural populations in general.

Organisation internationale de la Francophonie
The International Francophone Organisation aims to use its members’ common ties to the French language towards achieving peace, co-operation and development, with the goal of achieving the following: the establishment and development of democracy, conflict prevention and support for the rule of law and human rights; intensification of dialogue between cultures and civilisations; rapprochement of peoples for mutual acquaintance; enhancement of solidarity by means of multilateral co-operation actions to favour economic expansion.

The International Labour Organisation
The aim of the International Labour Organisation (ILO) is to promote social justice and respect for human rights in the working world. Established in 1919 by the Versailles Treaty, it survived the disappearance of the League of Nations and in 1946 became the first specialised institution in the United Nations system.

International Organisation for Migration
As the leading international organisation for migration, the IOM acts with its partners in the international community to assist in meeting the growing operational challenges of migration management, and to advance understanding of migration issues, encourage social and economic development through migration and uphold the human dignity and well-being of migrants.

The Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development
The OECD groups 30 member-states sharing a commitment to democracy and the market economy. Its working relations with 70 other countries, NGOs and civil society endow it with global reach. The organisation has earned recognition for its publications and statistics, and for work in the social and economic fields, and in macroeconomics, education, development, and science and technology.
Founded in 1962 by the OECD, the Development Centre act as an interface between OECD members and emerging and developing economies in Africa, Asia and Latin America.

UNESCO, the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organisation
The main objective of UNESCO is to contribute to peace and security in the world by promoting collaboration among nations through education, science, culture and communication, in order to further universal respect for justice, the rule of law, and human rights and the fundamental freedoms for the people of the world, without distinction of race, sex, language or religion, as recognised by the United Nations Charter. UNESCO counts 188 member-countries (at 19 October 1999).

UNICEF
Since it was founded in 1946, UNICEF has sought to protect the life of children around the world. The organisation has since worked to protect children’s rights, in order to help children satisfy their basic needs and expand the possibilities of realising their full potential.

The Latin Union
The Latin Union is an intergovernmental organisation comprising 35 countries using a Romance national or official language.

The Inter-Parliamentary Union
The Inter-Parliamentary Union is the international organisation grouping the parliaments of sovereign states and was founded in 1889. The Union is a focal point for worldwide parliamentary dialogue and works for peace and co-operation among peoples and for the firm establishment of representative democracy.
