Global education activities

Global education is education that opens people’s eyes and minds to the realities of the globalised world and awakens them to bring about a world of greater justice, equity and Human Rights for all.  - The Maastricht declaration, 2002

Global education is understood to encompass Development Education, Human Rights Education, Education for Sustainability, Education for Peace and Conflict Prevention and Intercultural Education; being the global dimension of Education for Citizenship.

The North-South Centre’s work for the development of Global Education (GE) started back in 1997, when the GE Charter was drafted and became its reference background document. Since then, the NSC has contributed to the dissemination and enrichment of Global Education through a number of initiatives:

- The European Congresses on Global Education
- The Global Education Week
- Global Education National and Regional Seminars
- Online Training Courses
- Training for Trainers

The 2 pillars of the Global Education Activities

Institutional pillar
The NSC strives to improve Policies, Partnerships and Networks in the field of GE.
We work on the development of a European framework for Global Education, and on the recognition of GE by policy-makers (Global Education Recommendations).
We provide space for dialogue, in order for experiences to be shared and common priorities to be identified (National and Regional Seminars).

We strengthen a network of key stakeholders, at the Global and European levels, with a focus on the new EU Member States (GEW Network).

We promote GE practices and encourage their implementation (Global Education Week).

The Joint Programme  signed between the NSC and the European Commission is essential for the achievement of these goals.
