First cycle of workshops on Istanbul protocol for prison staff of Montenegro finishes

First cycle of learning about Istanbul protocol (international guideline for effective investigation and documentation of torture and other cruel, inhuman or degrading treatment or punishment) by Montenegrin prison staff ends with 3-day workshop in Podgorica. The seminar was also used to present the latest changes to internal Guidelines for the health care provision of the Institute for the Execution of Criminal Sanctions, done with the support of the CoE experts. This exercise was done in the context of comprehensive capacity building activities over the last two years, contributing to systematic approach of penitentiary system to protection of human right and prevention of ill-treatment and their effort in meeting the Council of Europe and especially CPT standards.

This was done within the Action “Enhancing human rights protection for detained and sentenced persons in Montenegro that is co-funded by the European Union and the Council of Europe and implemented by the Council of Europe, started on 1 October 2016 and will finish in January 2019, with overall budget of 750.000 €.”
