The Global Education Week (GEW) 2026 will take place from 16 to 22 November 2026, bringing together educators, learners, youth actors, civil society organisations and policymakers from Europe and beyond under the motto: “My Voice, Our Action, A Common Future.”
In a global context marked by persistent inequalities, democratic challenges and rapid technological change, GEW 2026 reaffirms education as a key driver for a sustainable, just and peaceful world. While frameworks such as the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development and the Council of Europe’s New Democratic Pact for Europe set clear shared ambitions, global education provides essential tools for social change. It fosters mutual understanding, critical thinking and shared responsibility, enabling learners to engage with complexity and act across cultures and societies. Rooted in human rights principles, it promotes dignity, equality, freedom and justice as foundations for collective action.
A central focus of GEW 2026 is critical thinking as a democratic competence, particularly in a digital environment shaped by information overload, algorithmic systems and AI-generated content. It equips individuals to analyse information, identify manipulation and participate meaningfully in democratic life.
This vision is captured in the motto: “My Voice, Our Action, A Common Future.” From individual awareness to collective engagement, GEW 2026 highlights the power of education to transform reflection into action and action into shared futures.
The Week aims to strengthen transformative learning approaches, support civic engagement and contribute to SDG 4.7 and Council of Europe democratic frameworks, while connecting educators, policymakers, civil society and young people as key agents of change.
