Braga and Cascais: Portuguese cities celebrating their diversity on new websites

The cities of Braga and Cascais, Portugal, have both launched websites to celebrate the diversity in their cities. Through sharing the information online they can reach a larger audience and increase the knowledge of the intercultural work and encounters in their cities.

In Braga, the city has cooperated with a large number of stakeholders to launch the intercultural website, which holds materials on:

  • Anti-rumors posters;
  • Human Libraries - short stories about migrants living in the city which are also presented in short interactive talks;
  • Intercultural cafes - short webinars or seminars about specific themes within migration and interculturality;
  • Gender equality measures; and
  • Labour market inclusion initiatives.

In Cascais, the city celebrates the intercultural encounters by showcasing personal stories. Any group of two or more persons where one of the participants is born in Cascais and the other person is not can share their stories on the website. There, they can tell the story of how they arrived in the city, how they met the other person in the presentation, about their lives as well as about the positive interactions in their city. The storytelling is done in text with supporting images.

The practices have been shared on the good practice page of the Intercultural Cities.
