Catherine Trautmann

Catherine Trautmann is a former member of the French National Parliament (1986 to 1988) and Secretary of State for Social Affairs and Employment, responsible for the elderly and disabled in 1988.

She is also a former member of European Parliament (1989 to 1997 and 2004 to 2014). She led the French Socialist Delegation to the Parliament from July 2009 to June 2014.

She was Mayor of Strasbourg from 1989 to 1997 and from 2000 to 2001, a position she left in 1997 to join the Jospin government as Minister of Culture and Communication until 2000, and spokesperson until 1998.

She is currently a member of the City Council of Strasbourg and Vice-President of Strasbourg Eurométropole, in charge of economic development, international attractivity, support for the creative economy, audiovisual and cinema. She is also President of the Port of Strasbourg since 2008.

Since October 2014, Catherine Trautmann is the new European Coordinator for the North Sea-Baltic core network corridor.

In March 2015, she succeeded Jacques Toubon as co-president of the Franco-German Cultural High Council (HCCFA).

Catherine Trautmann holds a masters degree in Protestant theology from the Faculty of Theology in Strasbourg. She is an Officer of the Legion of Honor, Commander of Arts and Letters and Honorary Doctor of the University of Leicester. She also received the Officer's Cross of the Order of Merit of the Federal Republic of Germany.

During its meeting in December 2020, Eurimages Board of Management re-elected Ms Catherine Trautmann unanimously and by acclamation as President of the Fund for a second four-year term starting on 1 January 2021.

Catherine Trautmann elected President of Eurimages

Catherine Trautmann was today elected President of Eurimages, the support fund for the co-production, distribution and exhibition of European cinematographic works.

Born in Strasbourg, Catherine Trautmann is a fervent European. With an excellent knowledge of the film and audio-visual sector, she has been a longstanding proponent of the protection and promotion of cultural diversity. She has held senior governmental and European posts, notably as French Minister for Culture and Communication from 1997 to 2000, as member of the French delegation to the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe and then as a very active Member of the European Parliament for 18 years.

Catherine Trautmann succeeds Jobst Plog, whose excellent work at the head of Eurimages since 2009 she saluted: "I am conscious of the good fortune of working with a Board of Management and Secretariat that are both competent and committed, at the service of a Fund which has proved its worth and at a time when it is vital to reaffirm European values". For his part, Mr Plog expressed his satisfaction that the "Board has found a candidate capable of ensuring the continuity of our work".

Ms Trautmann will chair the Eurimages Fund as from 1 January 2017 for a four-year term of office.
