MEDIA ADVISORY: join students, teachers and parents at the 'Inclusive Day' celebrations in Podgorica

On Thursday, 11 October 2018, the European Union and the Council of Europe will join the Ministry of Education and schools across Montenegro to mark “Inclusive Day”. The main event will take place in the central square (Trg Nezavisnosti) in Podgorica, with events also being held in local schools.

The European Union and Council of Europe joint project ‘Democratic school culture’ is actively raising awareness of the importance of inclusive education and democratic school culture in Montenegro, and the Ministry of Education has joined their efforts and designated the 11 October as “Inclusive Day”. The celebrations will be a unique opportunity for representatives of the 26 pilot Montenegrin schools from the project to get together and to showcase their work to the general public.

Authorities, school children, teachers, NGOs, media, representatives of local communities and other partners who are supporting our efforts at building a democratic culture in schools will join the event. Each of the pilot schools will have a stand in the Square presenting their work showing how they have learnt about the Council of Europe’s Framework Competences for a Democratic Culture over the past two years of the project and how they continue to raise awareness about it. Teachers and schoolchildren will be available to answer questions in person, engage in informal discussions and peer exchanges.

The event will be opened by Arijana NIKOLIĆ-VUČINIĆ, Director General of the Directorate for pre-school and primary education and special education needs at the Ministry of Education, Plamena HALACHEVA, Head of the Political, European Integration and Trade Section at the EU Delegation to Montenegro, and Angela LONGO, Head of Operations of the Podgorica Council of Europe Programme Office.

The event is supported by the Action “Fostering a Democratic School Culture”, implemented within the EU / Council of Europe Joint Programme “Horizontal Facility for the Western Balkans and Turkey”.

The celebration will start at 13:00 on Thursday, 11 October 2011, in the central square (Trg Nezavisnosti) in Podgorica. Languages: English and Montenegrin with interpretation. The event is fully open to the media. Press statements will be given upon request.
