5th OPRE Meeting

The 5th OPRE Platform was collaborately organised with the 6th CoE-FRA-ENNHRI-EQUINET Collaborative Platform on Social and Economic Rights (“4Social Rights Platform”) which was hosted by the Northern Ireland Human Rights Commission in Belfast 15-16 May 2018. The first Joint Meeting of the "4Social Rights" and the “OPRE” platforms initiated a debate on the protection of the rights to accommodation of Travellers and the rights to housing of Roma and highlighted the human cost of evictions of both Travellers and Roma.

The COE-FRA-ENNHRI-EQUINET Operational Platform for Roma Equality (OPRE) was launched in January 2015, for the purpose of bringing together national, European and international human rights and equality institutions to work on strengthening Roma and Traveller rights protection in Europe by fighting discrimination, protecting and promoting human rights, democracy and the rule of law .

Its strength lies in the collaborative effort of its partners, by raising awareness on the human rights situation of Roma, by promoting evidence-based data, best practices and recommendations on Roma human rights and by enhancing the capacities of equality and human rights bodies to address Roma and Travellers rights violations.
