Webinar to launch the handbook “Family reunification for refugee and migrant children - Standards and promising practices”

Council of Europe, Strasbourg, 2 July 2020

The Webinar brought together key stakeholders involved in family reunification procedures, as well as NGOs, with the emphasis to enhance co-operation between different professionals. The participants discussed, among other, the challenges, main trends in ECHR case-law, lessons learned from practice and family reunification in times of COVID-19. One of the speakers shared her own experience in going through family reunion.

In the absence of sustainable relocation agreements, family reunification remains a feasible legal pathway to decongest facilities in frontline countries and to promote effective asylum procedures throughout the continent. It is a vital tool to ensure respect for children’s rights and their best interests.
