CPT published reports on Sweden and Kosovo* and response of the Finnish authorities

On 09 September 2021, the Council of Europe’s Committee for the Prevention of Torture and Inhuman or Degrading Treatment or Punishment (CPT), published its report on the January 2021 visit to Sweden. The delegation visited, for the first time, two closed migration detention centres run by the Swedish Migration Agency, in Åstorp and Ljungbyhed. In its recommendations, CPT called on Sweden to refrain from detaining foreign nationals in prisons instead of placing them in centres specifically designed for that purpose.

On 23 September 2021, the CPT published its report on the October 2020 visit to Kosovo* during which it examined the conditions at Vranidoll Detention Centre for Foreigners.

On 27 September 2021, the CPT published the Finnish response to the CPT’s report on the September 2020 visit to Finland during which it examined conditions of detention at Metsälä Detention Unit for Foreign Nationals, Helsinki and Border Guard detention facility at Kuusamo Border Crossing Point.

* All reference to Kosovo, whether to the territory, institutions or population, in this report shall be understood in full compliance with United Nations Security Council Resolution 1244 and without prejudice to the status of Kosovo.
