Japan funds Venice Commission symposium on AI and marks 30th anniversary as an observer to the Council of Europe

To mark 30 years of Japan's observer status with the Council of Europe, the Japanese Government has made a voluntary contribution of €45,000 to support a Venice Commission symposium on artificial intelligence and the challenges and opportunities in the development of advanced democracies.

The agreement was signed on 26 February 2026 by Ambassador Shigeta Oeda, Permanent Observer of Japan to the Council of Europe, and Mr Bjørn Berge, Deputy Secretary General.
