Across the Eastern Partnership region, there is increasing recognition that gender-sensitive justice reform depends on better data. Where information on women's experiences in the justice system is incomplete or inconsistent, policymakers have limited tools to respond effectively. Representatives of Armenian authorities and civil society met in Yerevan to discuss how improved data collection can support gender-sensitive justice policies and strengthen women’s access to justice.

The roundtable “Closing gender data gaps” provided a practical space for representatives of national institutions and experts to exchange on current practices, challenges and opportunities related to justice data collection in Armenia. Discussions focused on the production, standardisation and use of sex-disaggregated and policy-relevant data across the justice chain.

At the centre of discussion were the regional Guidelines on data collection practices relevant for women’s access to justice, a practical resource developed to support Eastern Partnership authorities collect and use gender-sensitive data in ways that reflect women’s experiences. The Guidelines provide practical, evidence-based guidance for justice sector institutions, national statistical offices and other public authorities working to make their system more responsive.

The meeting aimed to identify concrete follow-up actions to strengthen national data systems and support evidence-based reforms for women’s access to justice.

This event was organised as part of the European Union and Council of Europe joint programme “Partnership for Good Governance”, co-funded by the European Union and the Council of Europe and implemented by the Council of Europe, in the framework of the regional project “Women’s Access to Justice: implementing Council of Europe gender equality and violence against women standards.
