Youth voices shape the Blueprint Communication Strategy to tackle online addictions

In a bid to combat the growing risks of online addictions among young people, a Multi-Disciplinary Group comprising 26 stakeholders from six EU Member States crafted a Blueprint Communication Strategy to provide authorities with practical tools to spread awareness and encourage healthier online behaviours among youth all over Europe.

Between July and October 2025, three online workshops brought together representatives from public authorities, health and education sectors, civil society organisations as well as parents and students’ associations. Together, they defined clear communication goals, tailored key messages for specific audiences and identified effective outreach channels. A highlight was the participation of students from Gdynia’s general secondary school, Poland, whose fresh perspectives were key in shaping messages that really hit home for young people, proving just how vital youth input is in drafting effective policies.

We felt both listened to and heard, and it means a lot to us that you value the perspective of young people…This gave us a strong sense of meaningful contribution and cooperation”, said Łucja Mielnik, speaking on behalf of the student group.

The final Blueprint Communication Strategy and Media Mapping Report was unveiled at the Government Officials Workshop in Prague on 14-15 October 2025. Stay tuned!

The Project “Promoting the mental health of children and youth by addressing the risks of online gambling and gaming” is co-funded by the European Union via its Technical Support Instrument and implemented by the Council of Europe in cooperation with the European Commission.
