Three Eurimages Co-production Development Awards worth €20,000 each were presented over the weekend:

The first Eurimages Co-Production Development Award went to THE CRIMINALS, written and directed by Serhat Karaaslan, produced by French company Tiresias Films in cooperation with Germany, and submitted to Scriptlab at TorinoFilmLab.

The jury, made up of Christoph Friedel (Pandora, DE), Fiorella Moretti (Luxbox, FR) and Csaba Bereczki (HU) for Eurimages, declared: “Cinema should be physical, cinema should be political, cinema should have tension, cinema should be emotional, cinema should be brave. In cinema, beautiful people do beautiful things. This is what we see in 'The Criminals' by Serhat Karaaslan.”

A second Eurimages Co-Production Development Award went to the project THE WORKER written and directed by Eliza Petkova and presented as part of the Baltic Event co-production market. It is produced by German companies ROW Pictures GmbH and Fourmat Film GmbH in cooperation with Bulgaria.

The jury, made up of Céline Dornier (Logical Pictures, FR), Paul de Beco (Playtime, FR) and Eleni Chandrinou (GR) for Eurimages, said: “With the experience of immigration within Europe as a starting point, this project takes us, and the protagonist, on an unexpected journey. A journey during which the director invites us to rethink the meaning of community and masculinity.”

The same jury decided to give a Special Co-Production Development Award to the Ukrainian project ENGLISH LESSON written by Olga Voitenko, directed by Ivan Tymchenko and produced by the Ukrainian company SvitlorforFilm in cooperation with Estonia, Sweden and the Czech Republic. “A film that uses real life stories and animation to capture feelings and experiences of war. A hybrid film, with young protagonists and for young audiences.”

23.08.2024 - The 22nd edition of CineLink wrapped up last night at the Sarajevo Film Festival with the presentation of the €20,000 Eurimages Co-production Development Award to Milica Tomović's project BIG WOMEN, produced by the Serbian companies Non-Aligned Films and Big Time Production. The jury, made up of Konstantinos Kontovrakis (GR), Janine Jackowski (DE) and Illinka Teodorescu (RO) for Eurimages, was particularly impressed by this project, which demonstrates how patriarchal norms are internalised, while daring to portray the story's main characters in all their complexity.

As part of the special measures adopted by the Eurimages Fund in support of the Ukrainian film industry, the same jury chose to give a Eurimages Special Co-production Development Award of €20,000 to Philip Sotnychenko's project TIMES NEW ROMAN, to be co-produced by the companies Contemporary Ukrainian Cinema (CUC) and Viatel, in co-operation with Lithuania. This prize rewards an up-and-coming director whose unique vision blurs the lines between fiction and reality to tell the story of being an artist in a society in turmoil.

All the awards of the 22nd edition of the Cinelink industry programme can be found on the Festival website.

04.07.2024 - At the awards ceremony for the 2024 edition of Eastern Promises at the Karlovy Vary International Film Festival on 2 July, the Eurimages Co-production Development Award, presented for the first time under this initiative, went to the project ANTONIE, written and directed by Rozálie Kohoutová and produced by Martina Knoblochová and Martin Hůlovec from the Czech company Punk Film.

The jury, made up of Paolo Ciccarelli (MIA Market), Claudia Bluemhuber (Silver Réel) and Ilinka Teodorescu for Eurimages (Romanian Film Centre), chose to award the €20,000 prize to a "project that challenges conventional ideas about parenthood with humour and heart and motivates us to rethink societal norms".

18.04.2024 - Last night, the Visions du Réel initiative at the Nyon International Film Festival in Switzerland (12-21/04/2024) awarded its very first Eurimages Co-Production Development Award of €20,000 to the project THE LAST DAYS OF THE HOSPITAL by Mehran Tamadon.  This feature-length documentary will be produced by Delphine Morel of TS Productions (France) and Elena Tatti of Box Productions in Switzerland. The jury for the award, presented in the framework of VdR-Industry, was made up of Susana Santos Rodrigues (IndieLisboa Film Festival, Portugal), Swiss producer Vadim Jendreyko (Mira Film) and Eleni Chandrinou for Eurimages (Greece). It chose to reward a project that is both challenging and urgent, in which the director immerses the audience in a world beyond the comfort zone, using an unconventional approach that questions audience perceptions of people living in a mental health institution.

On a proposal by the Eurimages Fund and as part of its special measures to support the Ukrainian film industry, the same jury decided to award a Special Co-production Development Award also of 20,000 euros to a Ukrainian project entitled FIXING THE WAR.  This documentary will be directed by Vadym Ilkov and Clare Stronge and produced by the Ukrainian company Moon Man in co-operation with the Irish company Plainsong Films. The jury was impressed by this European co-production that is intimate, raw and authentic, and will go behind the curtain of news creation to show the people that really make it happen. The film gives a key to understanding how the media function in the 21st century – from the trenches of war to the making of news.

All the winners can be found on the event website.

The jury composed of producer Uljana Kim (Studio Uljana Kim, Lithuania), international sales agent Oscar Alonso (Latido Film, Spain) and Emma Scott (Screen Ireland) for Eurimages, chose to reward this European co-production for its “fresh take on the life of a refugee through a unique satirical lens; it reflects the absurdity of existence in describing the main character’s tragi-comic journey towards a new reality.”
