GLACY+: Advisory Mission on Cybercrime Legislation in Belize

The Council of Europe and the Forum of Presidents of Legislative Assemblies (FOPREL), in the framework of the on-going agreement for Cooperation on Cybercrime in Central America and the Caribbean Basin co-organized a mission of legislation on cybercrime and electronic evidence in Belize from 10 to 13 February 2020.

In November 2019, the Government of Belize through the Ministry of National Security and the Speaker of the House of Representatives was seeking to address a gap in the country’s laws. As a consequence it officially requested the Council of Europe through GLACY+ Project to support the national legislative drafting process on cybercrime in full collaboration with the national authorities in view to further accession to the Budapest Convention and assist the country in addressing a number of increasing threats in this particular area.

The activity successfully achieved the set goal and a document was finalized in the 4 days workshop with detailed comments on the Cybercrime Bill of Belize and drafting instructions for Belizean authorities’ consideration, aimed at harmonizing the national legislation on cybercrime and electronic evidence with the international standard of the Budapest Convention.

This activity was organized joining resources with Cybercrime@Octopus project.
