A three day course for cybercrime investigators has been conducted in Manila by INTERPOL on 21-23 June 2017, under the framework of the GLACY+ project.

Aimed at strengthening technical skills and advising on cybercrime investigation methods, digital forensics and collaboration with service providers, the training was attended by representatives of the Department of Justice and the Bureau of National Investigation. 

Along the three days, participants engaged in technical presentations, hands-on sessions, sharing of experiences and specialistic discussions on a number of topics that constitute the current challenges for cybercrime investigators in the Philippines, such as: how to make use of open source intelligence tools to gather and analyse relevant information on the web, how to improve effectiveness of e-mail and Internet investigations, what are the current practices in malware analysis, how to make interagency cooperation more efficient and how to partner with the private sector to improve collaboration and enhance the exchange of data.

Tools and additional resources were provided to address issues related to investigations on social media, also in consideration of their extensive use in the Philippines, top country on the global level for time spent on Internet and social networks.

A session was also dedicated to discuss the procedural powers provided to investigators under the framework of the Budapest Convention, and how to ensure the appropriate balance with the requirements of adequate protection of human rights and rule of law.
