The Sixth Steering Committee Meeting of the CyberEast joint project of the European Union and the Council of Europe brought together, on 12 December 2022, project stakeholders from Armenia, Azerbaijan, Georgia, the Republic of Moldova and Ukraine, alongside representatives of the European Union Commission, the Council of Europe and the CyberEast and CyberSecurity East project teams. The participation of a strong delegation from Ukraine – despite the war of aggression by the Russian Federation – was particularly welcome.
The meeting underlined the results of the project, including in terms of improving legal and policy frameworks and reinforcing the capacities of judicial and law enforcement authorities.
The Steering Committee adopted the CyberEast workplan for 2023 and agreed that follow up was needed from 2024 onwards following the completion of the current project.
Future priorities include in particular support to the implementation of the Second Additional Protocol to the Budapest Convention. Moldova and Ukraine signed this treaty on 30 November 2022 and other countries were encouraged to follow their example.
